SAN DIEGO – Playing for the third time in three days, the San Diego State men's tennis team hosted Texas Tech to wrap up the San Diego Spring Invitational at the Aztec Tennis Center on Sunday. For the second consecutive day, The Aztecs won the doubles point and on the bottom three singles courts, this time in a 4-1 victory.
 
The Scarlet and Black improve to 10-3 while the Red Raiders fall to an even 8-8.
 
"It was another quality win for our Aztecs today," said SDSU head coach Gene Carswell after the match. "I was really proud of how we got out of the gates in doubles, setting the tone for the remainder of the match. That was a good win against a very solid Big 12 opponent."
 
In doubles, Chikaya Sato and Bora Sengul (1-1) faced off against Lorenzo Esquici and Jonas Gundacker on the third court. The Aztecs earned a 6-2 victory. Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice played with Johannes Seeman (2-0) on the second court and battled Reed Collier and Takeyasu Sekiguchi. The Aztecs won 6-4 to win the doubles point. Robin Parts played with Alexander Mandma (7-0) on the top court. Facing Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak, the Aztec pair trailed 5-4 when the team clinched the doubles point.
 
In singles, Parts (8-0) faced Abboud. After a 6-2 win in the first set, he took the second 6-3.
 
Playing on the bottom court, Mandma (8-2) faced Sekiguchi. He dropped the first set 6-1 but bounced back to take the second 6-4. He carried that momentum over into the third set, which he won 6-2.
 
Sato (4-6) went up against Abboud on court No. 4. He emerged victorious from the first set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) and won the second set 6-4 to clinch an Aztec victory.
 
On the top court, Seeman (3-7) faced Collier. He fell 6-2 in the first set. Seeman forced a tiebreaker in the second but came up short 7-6 (7-1).
 
Two matches went unfinished. Gonzalez Fitzmaurice (7-2) battled Pawlak on the third court. He dropped the first set 6-1 but took the second 6-4. He trailed 5-4 when the Aztecs clinched victory. Facing Esquici on the second court, Sengul (3-4) won his first set 6-4. After falling 7-5 in the second, he led 3-2 in the third set when the match concluded.
 
San Diego State will finish its nonconference slate against Portland at the Aztec Tennis Center on Friday, March 22, at 2 p.m.
