Last Time Out
• San Diego State hosted their 45th annual Aztec Invitational last weekend, battling the rain during the latter half of Saturday's events. Due to the conditions, a lot of athletes from every school participating opted out of their events.
• The Aztecs saw five marks enter the record books across their two days of competition. The Friday night distance races saw Alex Lomeli (4:23.83) and Samantha Wood (4:29.20) move into fifth and eight on the all-time 1,500m list. Isabella Fauria (4:30.29) finished just shy of entering the top ten as well.
• Jessica Kain added yet another record book time to her list of accolades in Saturday's 800m race. Winning the event by three-hundredths of a second, she crossed the line in 2:07.52 for the ninth fastest time in SDSU history.
• Saturday had two field athletes enter the record books as well. Jenna Fee Feyerabend (144-8) moved into fifth on the javelin all-time list on her first official throw of the season. Freshman Jordan Leveque became the 20th different Aztec pole vaulter to clear 3.97m with a mark of 4.07m (13-4.25) which is tied for 13th best in program history.
Aztec Tidbits
• Head coach Shelia Burrell is in her 15th year leading the Aztec track and field program. This is her 14th outdoor season with 2020 being cancelled due to COVID. In that time, she has led the team to six Mountain West Outdoor Championships and won six MW Coach of the Year awards.
• The roster consists of 22 returning student-athletes and 17 newcomers. Of the newcomers, nine are freshman with the other eight transferring to The Mesa.
• Entering the season, current Aztecs held 23 marks in the program's all-time records and just three weeks into the year they have added four more to that total.
• SDSU currently has 14 marks that rank in the top five of the Mountain West, including conference-leading marks from Jessica Kain (800m), Vanessa Cabello (5,000m) and Jordan Leveque (pole vault). They also have three marks in the NCAA's top 25.
