SAN FRANCISCO – The San Diego State men's golf team carded an 8-over-par 288 on the second day of The Goodwin to move up four places Friday at TPC Harding Park. The Aztecs are now tied for 16th out of 31 teams at 21-over 581 on the par-70, 7,193-yard course.
 
SDSU, which is 29th in the latest NCAA golf rankings, is tied with Nevada and Oregon State, one shot behind Santa Clara (+20) and eight shots behind cracking the top 10. The top five consists of Utah (+3), No. 22 Georgia (+4), San Franciso (+5), No. 8 Tennessee (+5) and tournament host and No. 44 Stanford (+6).
 
Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) leads San Diego State through 36 holes in a tie for 36th out of 168 players at +3. Kowack rebounded from his opening-round 4-over 74 on Thursday and a 1-under 69 on Friday, which was the first under-par round for the Aztecs this weekend. Starting from the 10th tee, Kowack was quickly at 2-over through four holes, but went bogey-free with three birdies the rest of the way, moving from a tie for 92nd into a tie for 36th entering tomorrow's final round.
 
Jackson Moss (San Diego/Point Loma HS) is in a tie for 53rd at 5-over 145 following a 4-over 74 today. Moss had just one birdie on Friday on the par-4, 336-yard 16th hole and five bogeys.
 
Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) is a shot behind Moss in a tie for 68th at +6 with his second straight 73. Like Moss, Chokprajakchat had a lone birdie, which came on the par-4, 449-yard second hole, but also four bogeys to sign for a 73.
 
Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) bounced back from a 77 on Thursday with a 2-over 72 in today's second round and is in a tie for 109th at +9. Hastings had three birdies and three bogeys in the round, but unfortunately took a double-bogey on the par-4, 428-yard 13th and settled for a 72.
 
Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) carded another 75 and is tied for 120th at +10.
 
Georgia's Ben Van Wyk leads the field at 4-under 136, followed by Utah's Braxton Watts (-3), Pepperdine's Kristoffer Kuvaas (-2) and William Walsh (-2), and UCLA's Pablo Ereno (-2). Only 11 golfers are under par through 36 holes.
 
SDSU tees off in Saturday's final round at 1:05 p.m. PT, starting on the 10th hole along with San Diego, San Jose State and Santa Clara.
