SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's golf team is playing in the Mountain West Championships at the Dinah Shore Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. April 16-18. The tournament will be streamed on Golfkast (GKLive.TV).
Among the nine Mountain West schools, four are ranked in the top 75 nationally, led by San Jose State, who is No. 26 in the nation.
The Aztecs are the fifth-highest ranked Mountain West team entering the tournament. SDSU has finished in the top two in six of the past eight Mountain West Championships.
Head coach Lauren Dobashi (3rd season) will use the lineup of Emma Narita, Stephanie Barbaglia, Anika Sato, Anna Lina Otten, and Nikki Kato. Andrea Gomez will be SDSU's alternate.
Narita (Tokyo, Japan) has been the top Aztec five in five of SDSU's nine tournaments and leads SDSU with an 18-hole average of 74.0. She has won the last two Mountain West Freshman of the Week awards and has four top-20 finishes.
Barbaglia (Johannesburg, South Africa) has the team's best 18-hole average (74.1) in the spring and has finished in the top three among SDSU golfers in all nine tournaments and in the top two seven times. She is coming off a career-best performance at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic where she tied for fourth with a three-under-par 213.
Sato (Utsunomiya, Japan) has top 20 in two of her last three tournaments. She shot a season-low three-over-par 219 at last week's Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
Otten (Neuss, Germany), one of SDSU's two seniors, has made 31 career starts (out of 33). She is third on the team in stroke average (75.73) and tied her career low 54-hole score at last week's Wyoming Cowgirl Classic with a five-over-par 221.
Kato (Redmond, Wash.) will be making her second career and second consecutive start.
The forecast for all three days calls for clear skies with high temperatures surpassing 90 degrees. The first schools will tee off at 7 a.m. each day. The Aztecs tee off at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday and are paired with Colorado State and Boise State.
