SAN DIEGO – San Diego State head women's basketball coach Stacie Terry-Hutson has announced the signing of Veronica Sheffey, a transfer from the University of San Diego.
Sheffey, a 5'9" point guard from Woodinville, Wash., was an All-WCC Second Team selection last season after leading the Toreros in scoring and assists. She has two years of eligibility remaining.
"We are thrilled to add Veronica to the program," Terry-Hutson said. "She is a tough combo guard who has excellent vision, can get to the rim and is great in transition."
As a sophomore, Sheffey started all 31 games for the Toreros and averaged 12.2 points and 5.1 assists per game, which ranked third in the WCC.
The crafty lefty also led USD in assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.4), steals (1.5 per game) and free throws made (98) and attempted (133). She scored in double-digits in 22 of the Toreros' 31 games, including a career-high 23 against the Aztecs. Sheffey also tied a career-high with eight assists in that game.
As a freshman (2022-23), Sheffey made the WCC All-Freshman Team after averaging 4.5 points, 2.1 rebound and 1.3 assists per game.
At Sno-King Academy in Washington, she was named the 2022 4A State Player and the State Championship MVP after helping her school win the title.
Sheffey will be one of six newcomers on The Mesa next season, joining Colorado State transfer Cali Clark and incoming freshmen Bailey Barnhard, Kaelyn Hamilton, Natalia Martinez and Naomi Panganiban.
