SAN DIEGO – Head women's golf coach Lauren Dobashi has announced the signing of Maya Benita, a graduate transfer from the University of Arizona that will join the Aztecs for the 2024-25 season.
"We are excited to welcome Maya to the Aztec family," Dobashi said. "She brings a lot of playing experience and has proven that she can excel on the golf course and in the classroom. She has a great attitude and will bring outstanding leadership and maturity to our young team. She has a true passion for the game, and we are so glad she decided to spend her final year of eligibility at San Diego State."
Benita played in 17 tournaments across four years at Arizona. Her best placement came in the 2022 NCAA Albuquerque Regional where she tied for 25th and shot a one-under-par 71 in the opening round.
A standout in the classroom, Benita is a two-time WGCA Scholar All-American and was recently named the Arizona Athletics Valedictorian after graduating with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA as a finance major and spanish minor. While at SDSU, she will be working towards an advanced investment certificate.
A native of Tucson, Ariz., Benita attended Catalina Foothills High School where she won the 2019 individual state title. She amassed 13 top-10 finishes in 15 Junior Golf Association of Arizona during her prep career.
Benita is one of four newcomers coming to SDSU next season, joining incoming freshmen Emma Delwes, Emilia Omander and Kylie Phi.
