SAN DIEGO – San Diego State is headed to the pacific northwest for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. this weekend. Six Aztecs will make the trip as they compete in four total events at the national meet Thursday through Saturday.
Jenna Fee Feyerabend passed over the preliminaries with an automatic qualifying mark of 5,750 points in the heptathlon this season. That total ranks 13th in the country heading into the championships. The back-to-back Mountain West champion is in her second consecutive NCAA Championship meet, finishing 11th at last year's meet.
Shaquena Foote is set for her first championship meet, racing in the 400m dash. She ran a personal best 51.35 in the first round of the event which ranks third fastest in program history qualifying her for the quarterfinals. Fresh off a leg in the 4x100m, she posted a 51.85 to claim the final qualifying spot to Eugene. Her quarterfinal time has her 24th in the 24-person field, but her PR ranks among the top ten.
Xiamara Young made it a two-for-two showing, qualifying for both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in her first season on The Mesa. She celebrated her birthday with a personal best jump of 13.51m (44-4) in her final attempt at the prelims to qualify for the outdoor championship meet. She ranks 11th of the 24-competitor field.
The Aztec 4x100m relay team had an incredible performance at the West Preliminaries, crossing the line in 43.45 seconds. It is the second fastest time in program history and also ranks 11th for the championship meet. San Diego State is the only non-power five program to send their 4x1 team to at least five of the last eight NCAA Championship meets, qualifying in six of those eight years.
