SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women’s golf team will compete in the Colorado State’s Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic Monday and Tuesday. Played at Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo., the Aztecs will play 36 holes Monday and play their final 18 holes Tuesday with both rounds beginning with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start.

This is the Aztecs’ second tournament of the 2024-25 season. They finished fifth out of 16 schools at the Leadership and Golf Invitational at Chambers Bay earlier this week with an 881 (+17) and were led by Stephanie Barbaglia’s three-under-par 213.

The 11-team field includes Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Colorado, Colorado State, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, Nevada, UC Davis, Washington State and Wyoming. The Aztecs competed against six of those schools at Chambers Bay, going 2-4 against them.

San Diego State’s lineup is Stephanie Barbaglia, Ema Narita, Kylie Phi, Anika Sato and Nikki Kato while freshman Emma Delwes will compete as an individual.

Barbaglia has shot a career-low 213 in each of her last three tournaments dating back to last year, earning top 10 finishes in all three. At Chambers Bay earlier this week, she carded a career-low five-under-par 67 in her second round.

Narita finished last season with a 73.83 stroke average, the lowest ever by a freshman in school history. In SDSU’s opening tournament, she shot a four-over-par 220, good for a tied for 22nd place.

Phi shot a three-under-par 69 in her debut round at Chambers Bay and tied with Anika Sato for the third best round among Aztecs.

Sato shot a consistent 228 in the first tournament, shooting a 77-75-76. This will be her 30th career start.

Kato had career-best 18 and 54-hole scores at Chambers Bay. She shot an even par 72 in her second round and finished with a 229 (+13), one stroke behind Phi and Sato.

Delwes, a freshman from Verden, Germany, will be making her collegiate debut. She has won many tournaments in her amateur career including the 2022 U23 PrimeTime Junior Invitational and 2021 and 2022 Lower Saxony Championship. She also won the 2021 International Junior Golf Masters while setting a course record 64 (-7).

Ptarmigan Country Club, a Jack Nicklaus designed course, is par 72 and 6,498 yards.

The forecast in Fort Collins, Colo. calls for sunny skies with temperatures reaching the 70s on Monday and high 60s on Tuesday.

The Aztecs will be paired with Colorado and Colorado State Monday beginning on holes 1-4.
