SAN DIEGO – The stage is set for San Diego State women’s tennis at day three of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships where six Aztecs will compete in the doubles round of 32. After a pair of wins on Friday, Zoe Olmos, Vesa Gjinaj, Charlotte Roesch, Gloria Alogo, Ninon Martinache and Jo-Yee Chan look to advance in the doubles main draw on Saturday.
Olmos and Gjinaj picked up the first win of the day over UCSD’s Kelly Leung and Katelyn Vu, taking the first-round match 8-5. Roesch and Alogo followed suit with an 8-7 (7-3) nailbiter against Simone Kay and Jana Hossam Salah of USC. The four Aztecs will head into the second round alongside Chan and Martinache, who earned a first-round bye.
Chan got off to a strong start in the singles round of 64, taking down Cal Poly’s Jessica MacCallum with a score of 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 7-5, but the junior was bested 6-2, 6-3 by Elise Wagle of UCLA in the round of 32.
Martinache, Alogo, Olmos and Gjinaj came up short in the round of 64:
