Chokprajakchat fired a 2-under-par 70 in Tuesday’s final round on the par-72, 7,138-yard course and tied for second overall with UCLA’s Pablo Ereno at 8-under, just one shot back of Colorado State’s Jay Pabin (-9). Oregon’s Eric Doyle (-7) and Long Beach State’s Charlie Forster (-6) rounded out the top 5 in the 72-man field.
The Aztecs, who were 45th in the latest Scoreboard rankings, came in second of 13 teams, 10 shots behind No. 15 UCLA (-23). Colorado State was four shots behind SDSU in third at -9, while No. 38 Oregon (-3) and No. 37 Long Beach State (+1) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Chokprajakchat, who shot a 71 yesterday and finished up his second round this morning with a 5-under 67, carded a 2-under today. Starting on the par-5, 571-yard 13th hole, Chokprajakchat got to 3-under with consecutive birdies on the par-5, 558-yard 17th and par-4, 450-yard 18th. Senior Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) tied for sixth at 5-under 211 following a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. Hastings’ wild round featured seven birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey on the par-4, 477-yard 15th that dropped him to 2-over for the round. He then went 4-under over his final 14 holes.
Junior Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) came in a tie for 16th at 1-under, going 67, 76 and 72. Kowack was at 2-under through his first 17 holes but a double bogey on the par-4, 457-yard 11th - his second of the day - brought him back to even par for the round. Overall, he sank five birdies, while logging one bogey and two double bogeys.
Freshman Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) and sophomore Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif.) each were two shots back of Kowack at 1-over 217.
