SAN DIEGO – Coming off back-to-back trips to the Sweet 16, the 2024-25 San Diego State Aztecs' men's basketball team hosts its lone exhibition on Wednesday, October 30, at 7 p.m. PT, at Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars.

In 2024-25, San Diego State welcomes back one starter, senior guard Reese Waters, as well as letterwinners Miles Byrd and Miles Hiede; both sophomores and a guard and forward, respectively. Also, back and expected to play an expanded role is sophomore guard BJ Davis as well as junior forward Demarshay Johnson Jr.

In addition to the returners, the Aztecs have brought four transfers into the fold: featuring Nick Boyd, who competed for Florida Atlantic against San Diego State in the 2023 NCAA Tournament’s Final Four, Jared Coleman-Jones, an All-Conference USA performer who led Middle Tennessee State in assists and was one of seven players 6-10 or taller who led his team in assists last year. As well as Boyd and Coleman-Jones, two San Diego natives have joined the squad in Wayne McKinney III, who comes to The Mesa from San Diego and is 140 points from 1,000 for his career, and Kimo Ferrari, a graduate transfer from Brown, who dropped a program record 10 three-pointers and totaled 39 points in his Senior Night game with the Bears.

Among the freshman, forward Magoon Gwath, who redshirted last season, Pharaoh Compton, the Mountain West Preseason Freshman of the Year, and Taj Degourville, a 6-5 guard with a 7-0 wingspan, are expected to see significant minutes.

SDSU boasts the third-best winning percentage in the country since the start of the 2019-20 season, is one of five schools, nationally, to win at least 19 games each of the last 19 seasons, and since 2006 trails only Gonzaga among most conference championship game appearances in Division I: the Aztecs have 15 to the 'Zags 19. In addition, San Diego State has won a conference-record 16 Mountain West championships (regular-season and tournament) and its 75.4 percent winning percentage since the start of the 2009-10 campaign is the sixth best in the country.
