LAS VEGAS – San Diego State women’s tennis closed out the third day of the inaugural Mountain West Fall Qualifier, capping off a deep run in the main draw by two of the four competing Aztecs.
Gloria Alogo and Jo-Yee Chan both fought their way through the first three rounds and into Friday’s singles semifinal, but neither were able to secure a spot in the conference final.
On Friday afternoon, Alogo went up against Nevada’s Amahee Charrier, the number one overall seed. The junior dropped the first set 1-6, which was the first loss of the week for Alogo, who had won all her matches in straight sets. She was able to gain some momentum in the second, but couldn’t hold on, falling 4-6.
On the other side of the bracket, Chan faced off against Zdena Safarova of Boise State, who was seeded sixth. The standout transfer was not able to get much going in the match and was ultimately bested 1-6, 2-6.
Next up, the two Aztecs will go head-to-head on Saturday for a third-place finish.
