ST. GEORGE, Utah – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (5-4-2, 2-0-0) shutout Utah Tech (1-7-2, 0-2-0) 1-0 Sunday afternoon. The Aztecs started WAC play with a pair of 1-0 shutouts on the road.

“I’m very proud of the results this weekend to secure two huge road wins and clean sheets,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said. “Our entire team defense, from front to back, was excellent and carried us this weekend.”

The Aztecs wasted no time and scored less than two minutes into the match. Beto Apolinar sent a perfect long lead pass to Robbie Matei down the left sideline that he snuck past the Trailblazer keeper.

Utah Tech picked up red cards in the 29th and 59th minutes, forcing them to play shorthanded.

The Aztecs outshot them 14-9, but also held a dominant 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Djibril Doumbia picked up his second straight shutout.

THE NOTE I

The Aztecs have allowed just three shots on goal over their last three games.

THE NOTE II

This was the second time this season SDSU has scored within the firs two minutes of a match.
