SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat San Francisco (2-2) 73-62 inside Viejas Arena Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs are now a perfect 4-0 to start the season, the first time they’ve won their first four games since the 1992-93 season.
“San Francisco is a very good team,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “We knew we were going to have our work cut out for us coming into the game. I thought we did a good job adjusting in the second half.”
After trailing by six at halftime, the Aztecs held the Dons to 25 percent shooting in the second half and outscored USF 43-26.
Adryana Quezada led the Aztecs with 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting while Veronica Sheffey had 12 and a game-high five assists. The freshman duo of Nat Martinez (14) and Naomi Panganiban (11) also scored in double-digits.
“It’s about the we over me and I thought today’s game embodied that,” Terry-Hutson explained. “Some of our star players didn’t play well today, but our freshman class stepped up, and that’s what it’s about.”
SDSU trailed 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and were down 36-26 late in the second quarter, but a 20-4 Aztec run spanning the end of the second quarter and beginning of the third quarter gave the Aztecs their first lead of the game.
Martinez scored 10 of her points in a span of 4:30 minutes, which included a four-point play.
The Aztecs forced 20 turnovers and only committed nine.
SDSU was 14-for-15 from the line and are now shooting 78.6% from the line on the year.
STAT OF THE GAME
The freshmen quartet of Martinez, Panganiban, Kaelyn Hamilton and Bailey Barnhard combined to score 35 points. Barnhard, a local product of Del Norte HS, was making her season debut.

This was Stacie Terry-Hutson’s 100th career win at Viejas Arena.
