NEW YORK – San Diego State men’s soccer’s Reid Fisher was selected by Toronto FC with the 23rd overall pick of the MLS SuperDraft Friday.

Fisher is the third Aztec to be drafted in the last three years, and second in the first round, joining CJ Fodrey (13th overall) and Blake Bowen (59th) who were both selected in the 2022 SuperDraft.

“Being drafted means a lot to me, the program and my family,” Fisher said. “It shows how much we have grown as a program by being able to develop guys and send them to the pros. I’m grateful for everyone who has supported me and put in time, especially the coaching staff and trainers.”

Fisher was named to both the All-WAC First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region First Team after helping the Aztecs lead the conference in shutouts per game, goals allowed average and shots on goals allowed per game in WAC matches. Fisher has led SDSU in minutes in each of the last two seasons and in 2023 was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and a Freshmen All-American.

"We are thrilled to see Reid selected in the MLS SuperDraft. It shows our player development model is working at the highest levels," Head Coach Ryan Hopkins said. "Our goal is to compete for championships, help guys pursue professional opportunities and graduate with a great degree."

Fisher does have an option to return to San Diego State next season rather than turning professional. However, he would not be eligible for the MLS SuperDraft next season and Toronto FC will hold his SuperDraft priority for the next two years.

After being selected with the 23rd pick, Fisher is the second highest MLS SuperDraft pick in program history, only trailing Fodrey (13th in 2022).
