SAN DIEGO – San Diego State swimmers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, when they battle Colorado State and the University of San Diego at USD Sports Center Pool, beginning at noon PT.

A total of 12 individual swimming events and two relays will be contested at the three-team meet, which will be scored as an invitational.

The Aztecs will lock horns with the Rams and Toreros in the 200 medley relay followed by the 1,000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 50 freestyle. After a brief intermission, the meet resumes with the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 individual medley and the 400 freestyle relay.

In addition, the results from all three squads competing at this week’s Lancer Diving Invitational in Riverside, California, will be tabulated into final team scores at the USD meet.

San Diego State has faced the Toreros on two previous occasions this season at the Aztec Aquaplex, winning the annual pentathlon meet between the schools by a 33-24 margin on Sept. 13 before claiming a 71-43 victory in a six-event dual meet two weeks later.

Meanwhile, the Aztecs will be afforded an early look at Colorado State prior to the Mountain West Championships in February. Last season, the Rams logged a third-place finish at the conference meet behind SDSU and UNLV, respectively.

San Diego State is coming off its second straight double dual sweep after dispatching Colorado College (116-106) and Cal State East Bay (104-89) on Jan. 7 at Aztec Aquaplex, raising its record to 9-0 on the year in dual-meet competition.

The Aztecs were triumphant in 11 of 13 events on Tuesday, as nine different competitors posted individual victories along with a pair of relays.

As of Jan. 10, Meredith Smithbaker owns the Mountain West’s fastest times thus far in the 50 free (22.42) and 100 free (48.33), while Abby Storm tops the conference in the 200 back (1:55.11). In addition, the Aztecs’ 200 freestyle relay team of Smithbaker, Alli Mann, Kaydence Bispo and Peebles boast the league’s top time of 1:30.08. All performances were recorded at the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational, Nov. 21-23.

Elsewhere, Mai McKenna enters the weekend ranked second in the MW in the 200 fly (1:58.46), 200 IM (1:59.24) and 400 IM (4:17.05), along with Storm in the 100 back (52.17) and Moa Bergdahl in the 100 breast (1:00.24).

Earlier, Mann garnered MW Swimmer and Freshman of the Week accolades after helping the Scarlet and Black defeat New Mexico and Pepperdine in another double dual meet at home on Jan. 2.

Against the Waves and Lobos, Mann captured two individual event titles, highlighted by a season-best swim of 2:04.20 in the 200 butterfly before winning the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.20. She also contributed to SDSU’s triumphant 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Following Saturday’s competition, San Diego State will square off against USD for a pair of dual meets on consecutive days, Jan. 24-25. The Aztecs will engage the Toreros in swim-only events at USD’s pool, before returning to The Mesa with a full squad the next day when the Scarlet and Black celebrates Senior Day at Aztec Aquaplex.
