SAN DIEGO – San Diego State track and field is headed to the University of Washington for the UW Invite and Mile City meet this weekend. The Aztecs’ competition will begin at 2:20 p.m. PT on Friday and 10 a.m. PT on Saturday.
• San Diego State is set for their second meet of the indoor season as they head to Washington for the UW Invite/Mile City in Seattle.
• Comprised mostly of distance runners, the Aztecs will send 10 student-athletes to the pacific northwest this weekend. In total, they make up 17 individual entries across four events.
• Sara Jones and Emily Van Valkenburg will make their indoor debuts while Sophia Wolf makes her Aztec debut after signing with SDSU last month. Isabella Fauria and Samantha Wood will be competing in their first indoor meets as Aztecs after joining the team for outdoor last year.
• Vanessa Cabello ran a 9:51.56 in the 3,000m run at this meet last year, the third fastest time in program history. Tatum Zinkin also PR’d running a 2:16.65 in the 800m. Among the returners joining them are Shaquena Foote, Lauren Harper and Anna Mager.
• Among the teams SDSU will compete against are Cal Poly, Fresno State, Hawai’i, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Portland, Santa Clara, Seattle, Stanford, Washington and Washington State.
• Last week, the Aztecs kicked off their season in Reno, Nev. Shaquena Foote headlined the competition with a win in the 200m and third-place finish in the 60m. Both her times rank top ten in SDSU history and top 20 nationally this season. Aji Mbye also recorded a top ten time in the 60m while Jordan Leveque and Peyton Bedrosian finished one-two in pole vault.
• Foote was awarded her fifth career indoor Mountain West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honor for her performance.
• Head Coach Shelia Burrell enters her 16th season at the helm of the program. Since taking over, SDSU has finished top three at the MW championships every year except one, including winning the title in 2013.
• The Aztecs finished second in the Mountain West Indoor Championships last year, their third runner-up finish in the last four conference championship meets.
• Eight Aztecs earned all-Mountain West honors last year, their fourth consecutive season of at least seven honorees. Of the eight, six return for the 2025 season including gold medal winners Hannah Waller (60m) and Shaquena Foote (400m).
• Last year, SDSU had 22 marks etched into the indoor record books, including four school records. This year, the Aztecs have already recorded three more program top ten marks.
San Diego State Heads to Washington for the UW Invite
The Aztecs will only travel track athletes to compete in the mid-distance and distance events for the two-day meet.
