SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State men’s golf senior Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) is set to compete in the 2025 Jones Cup Invitational, beginning Friday at Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Georgia. The 21st Jones Cup is an invite-only event, which brings together many of the top amateurs in the world.
Hastings, the 47th-ranked amateur in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), is one of 84 golfers in the Jones Cup field, which also features 43 of the top-100 amateurs. The three-day, 54-hole individual stroke-play event begins on Friday morning with players teeing off from either the first hole or the 10th hole between 9 and 11:10 a.m. ET.
Hastings, who is also 20th in the latest PGA TOUR University Rankings, is tied for the team lead this season through four tournaments and 12 rounds in scoring average (71.67), rounds below par (5) and even-par rounds (2). His career scoring average of 71.48 is the lowest in recorded program history (since at least 1993-94), just ahead of Xander Schauffele’s 71.50 set from 2013-15.
First contested in 2001, the Jones Cup began as an opportunity to celebrate not only the game of golf, but also the camaraderie and fellowship associated with it. This 54-hole, individual stroke-play event is played at Ocean Forest Golf Club. The Rees Jones design course opened in 1995 and has hosted the 1998 Georgia State Amateur Championship, the 1999 Southern Amateur Championship, and the 2001 Walker Cup Match. Past winners including notable starts Ludvig Aberg (2021), Davis Thompson (2020), Akshay Bhatia (2019), Beau Hossler (2016), Corey Conners (2014), Justin Thomas (2012), Patrick Reed (2010) and Luke List (2007).
San Diego State officially kicks off its spring campaign, Jan. 27-29, at the Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club in Lake Sherwood, California.
