COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State’s Harry Takis has been named the Mountain West Men’s Golf Freshman of the Week, the league announced Thursday. It is the first career MW accolade for the Brisbane, Australia native.

Takis helped the Aztecs to a tie for fifth place at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 13-15, in Hokuala in Lihue, Kaua‘i, Hawaii. Takis fired a 3-under-par 207 to tie for 14th out of 101 golfers, as SDSU went from 14th out of 17 teams after the first day to 10th after two rounds to a tie for fifth finishing position. Takis opened with a 1-over 71 on Thursday, and followed with a 1-under 69 on Friday and finally a 3-under 67 on Saturday.

The 207 was a collegiate 54-hole low score for Takis, while the 67 in the final round matched the lowest 18-hole score of his collegiate career.  

In two events in the spring, Takis is second on the team with a 69.20 stroke average across five rounds. Overall, Takis’ 71.76 scoring average is third on the team.

San Diego State next plays in the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas from March 2-4 before hosting its lone home tournament, the San Diego Lamkin Invitational, March 10-11, at San Diego Country Club in nearby Chula Vista, California.
