Aztecs Host Cal Poly and Pomona-Pitzer, Head to La Jolla

San Diego State men’s tennis is gearing up to host Cal Poly and Pomona-Pitzer in back-to-back matches on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as compete in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, beginning Thursday.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s tennis is gearing up to host Cal Poly and Pomona-Pitzer in back-to-back matches on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as compete in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, beginning Thursday.

Wednesday’s matchup against the Mustangs is set to get underway at 2 p.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center. First serve against the Sagehens will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The Aztecs are 3-3 with a 2-1 record at home. Last time out, the Aztecs fell 4-0 at Utah State on Feb. 16 in the team’s first conference match of the season. Two days prior, the Scarlet and Black took down Weber State 5-2 on the road.

Cal Poly is 3-6 on the season, most recently earning a 4-3 win over Idaho on Feb. 23. The Mustangs also have wins over Gonzaga and Sacramento State. They are led by Bastiaan Weststrate, Raz Haviv and Sean Kamyshev, who each earned All-Big West honors in 2024.

Pomona-Pitzer is 2-1 in the 2025 campaign with wins over Ventura College and California Lutheran University, and a loss to Azusa Pacific University.

Last year, San Diego State’s Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Bora Sengul competed in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships, winning all three of their day one matchups to advance to the Round of 16 where they ultimately fell 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) to Pepperdine’s ninth-seeded Pietro Fellin and Edward Winter.

Other teams competing in this year’s doubles championships include San Diego, UCLA, USC, Nevada, Villanova, UC San Diego, UC Davis, Pepperdine, Georgetown, Cal Poly, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer, Rice, Bucknell and Ball State.
