SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State track and field team heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to compete in the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Championships this weekend. The three-day meet begins Thursday with the pentathlon, 5,000-meter run and distance medley relay, and concludes Saturday with the 4x400-meter relay.

The Aztecs will send 26 student-athletes, totaling 39 entries for the weekend.

Based on the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) TFRI rankings, San Diego State ranks third in the conference behind New Mexico and defending MW champion Colorado State.

As SDSU heads into the Mountain West Indoor Championships, Shaquena Foote (200m) and Jenna Fee Feyerabend (pentathlon) will enter as the top ranked athletes on the conference performance list. Foote also ranks third in the conference for the 400 meters, while Feyerabend is also sixth in the high jump. Hannah Waller ranks among the league leaders as well, coming in as the second best in both the Mountain West in the 60-meter dash and long jump. Charlize James also ranks second in the 60-meter hurdles.

Overall, the Aztecs have 17 times/marks that currently rank in the top eight of the conference performance list, which would score in the conference championship meet. Ten of times are in track events with six coming in field events and one in the multis.

Head Coach Shelia Burrell is in her 16th season at the helm of the program. Since taking over, SDSU has finished among top three at the MW championships every year except one, including winning the title in 2013.

The Aztecs finished second in the Mountain West Indoor Championships last year, their third runner-up finish in the last four conference championship meets. Eight Aztecs earned all-Mountain West honors last year, their fourth consecutive season of at least seven honorees. Of the eight, six return for the 2025 season including gold medal winners Hannah Waller (60m) and Shaquena Foote (400m).
