YPSILANTI, Mich. – San Diego State lacrosse completed its first road sweep of the 2025 campaign on Sunday, taking down Eastern Michigan 15-10 to advance to 2-0 after knocking off Detroit Mercy 17-5 on Friday.
The Eagles got on the board first with a goal by Mackenzie Blackwell, but the Aztecs responded quickly. Matty Spaeth was the first scorer for San Diego State in both games this weekend. She got the Aztecs going with a free position goal at the 10:42 mark.
It was a breakout game for redshirt freshman Bella Tan, who followed up her three-goal performance on Friday with five in the net on Sunday, including three in the fourth quarter. After three periods of a back-and-forth offensive battle, the Aztecs were up 8-7 when Tan put away three within five minutes to extend the lead to 11-8.
Kate Christos was the second leading scorer, putting three on the board to tie her career high, which she originally posted at Xavier on Feb. 11 of last season.
Spaeth, Frankie Garcia and Nikki Seven got in the mix with two goals apiece, and Tatum Neach added one.
Four of San Diego State’s goals were assisted. Garcia was a key in creating offense, leading with three assists. Keira Doyle-Odenbach also recorded one. Overall, the team put up 35 shots and allowed only 25.
Just as they did on Friday, the Aztecs commanded the 50/50s against the Eagles, earning 15 draw controls and 29 ground balls over Eastern Michigan’s 13 and 21, respectively. They also caused 16 turnovers.
Caitlin Boughton played all 60 minutes in the cage, recording five saves.
San Diego State went with a tighter rotation than Friday’s game, with 17 Aztecs seeing the field. The starting lineup remained the same, including true freshmen Maya Tillman and Doyle-Odenbach, redshirt freshmen Sophia Miller and Tan, and junior transfer Spaeth.
Next up, the Aztecs will hit the road once again, heading to South Carolina where they will face Winthrop on Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. PT, followed by a Sunday matchup against Wofford at 9 a.m. PT.
