Women’s Tennis to Face Nevada and Boise State

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis continues conference play this week, heading to Reno to take on Nevada in the Aztecs’ first road contest since Feb. 16, before returning to the Aztec Tennis Center to host Boise State. The Scarlet and Black will face the Wolf Pack at noon on Friday and the Broncos at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Entering Friday’s match with an 8-5 overall record and 1-0 in the Mountain West, the Aztecs most recently kicked off their conference slate with a 4-0 win over Air Force on Saturday. Playing singles only, Ninon Martinache, Yasmine Kabbaj, Zoe Olmos and Liisa Varul each captured victories on their respective courts to lead the Aztecs to their first Mountain West win of the season. Martinache took down Air Force’s Sofia Mavor, 6-0, 6-0 on court three. Facing Nadia Kojonroj on the top court, Kabbaj earned a 6-0, 6-3 win. Olmos defeated Maya Michalski 6-4, 6-2 on the fourth court. Varul clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Shivaani Selvan on court five.

The Wolf Pack boast a 10-1 overall record and are 2-0 in conference play with wins at Colorado State and Wyoming. They are led by Amahée Charrier, who has a 6-1 dual record when playing on the top court. The junior has won six straight on court one.

In doubles, Silvia-Maria Costache and Marlene Foerster typically take the top court, posting a 5-2 record thus far in dual action. Charrier and Kennedy Robinson have dominated on the second court, going 8-1 through Nevada’s first 11 matches.

The Broncos are 10-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Mountain West. Last time out, they fell 4-2 to San Jose State following a 5-2 win over Fresno State in their conference opener. Boise State is led in singles by Zdena Safarova with a 10-2 record on court one and in doubles by Safarova and Maya Dutta, who are 7-2 on the top court.

Following Sunday’s home match, the Aztecs will prep for a four-match road slate, beginning with a trip to Laramie, Wyoming to take on the Cowboys on March 28 at 3 p.m. PT.
