Aztecs to Face Oregon on the Road

San Diego State lacrosse is back on the road, headed to Eugene, Ore. to take on the Oregon Ducks in a Thursday afternoon contest, scheduled to get underway at noon PT.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse is back on the road, headed to Eugene, Ore. to take on the Oregon Ducks in a Thursday afternoon contest, scheduled to get underway at noon PT.

This will be the 12th matchup between the two programs. The Aztecs currently hold an 8-3 advantage over the Ducks in the all-time series and boast a five-game winning streak dating back to 2017. The most recent meeting took place on April 13, 2024, which San Diego State won 13-12. The Aztecs are 3-1 against the Ducks at Papé Field, earning their last win in Eugene in 2022 by a score of 18-15.

Currently 4-2 on the season, Oregon has wins over Butler, Stetson, Columbia and Central Michigan, but has lost two straight to California and UC Davis, most recently falling 20-15 to the Aggies on the road.

Leading the Oregon offense is midfielder Anna Simmons with 24 goals on the season. The junior also leads the team in ground balls (15) and caused turnovers (12). Another key player for the Ducks in the midfield is junior Rachel Pallo, who has recorded 42 draw controls and 12 ground balls through the first six games.  

Last time out, the Aztecs came up short 21-14 to No. 22 USC at home, falling to 4-2 overall. Six Aztecs scored, and redshirt freshman Bella Tan led with five goals on the day. She leads the Aztecs with 21 so far this season and has the second-highest goals per game average in the Big 12 (3.50).

Frankie Garcia recorded the most points last Saturday, tallying three goals and three assists. The sophomore leads the team in both points (29) and assists (10). She also ranks third in the Big 12 in points per game (4.83), fourth in goals per game (3.17) and fifth in assists per game (1.67).

The Aztec offense leads the conference in goals per game, amassing 98 for an average of 16.33 per game.

Kate Christos and Doyle-Odenbach continue to lead the Scarlet and Black in the draw, each earning 20 draw controls this season. The midfielders also lead in ground balls with 12 apiece, alongside Garcia, Spaeth and goalkeeper Caitlin Boughton, who also have 12 each. On the defensive end, Reilly Hunter and Neach have been key, each causing nine turnovers. San Diego State tops the conference in ground balls per game (24.00) and caused turnovers per game (12.00).

Following Thursday’s game, the Aztecs will return to host East Carolina on March 10 at 7 p.m. at Snapdragon Stadium.
