SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis is set for its final regular season contest, welcoming UNLV to the Aztec Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. match on Thursday. Prior to first serve, head coach Peter Mattera will honor seniors Yasmine Kabbaj and Zoe Olmos beginning at 12:40 p.m.

The Aztecs enter the contest on a seven-match winning streak, boasting an 8-1 conference record and 15-6 on the season. Last time out, the Scarlet and Black swept New Mexico 4-0 at home to clinch a share of the regular season Mountain West Championship. San Diego State now looks to capture an outright championship and #1 tournament seed with a win on Thursday.
In the shutout victory vs. New Mexico, Liisa Varul and Jo-Yee Chan downed Maud Vandeputte and Coumba Ben Diangadou 6-2 on the top court before Zoe Olmos and Gloria Alogo secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Sofia Taborga and Marika Matsoukatidi on court three. Olmos then earned the team’s second point, taking court three 6-2, 4-0 (ret.) over Matsoukatidi. Ninon Martinache extended her undefeated conference singles record, defeating Sarah O’Connor 6-0, 6-1 in the second spot to capture her eighth Mountain west victory. Freshman Charlotte Roesch clinched the match for the first time in her career, taking down Taborga 6-0, 6-2 on the sixth court.
UNLV holds a 16-5 overall record, 7-2 in the league, and is currently on a three-match winning streak, most recently sweeping Utah State 4-0 on Sunday. Tied with Nevada at 7-2 in conference play, the Rebels enter the match on the hunt for a share of the title.
This is San Diego State’s first regular season championship since the 2013 season. Finishing with a 22-6 record, the 2013 Aztecs finished runner-up in the Mountain West Tournament, but earned an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament where they fell 4-1 to No. 20 Baylor in the first round.
Following Thursday’s regular season finale, the Aztecs will prep for the conference tournament, which gets underway on April 23 in Las Vegas.
