TEMPE, Ariz. – San Diego State lacrosse was downed 23-12 by Arizona State in the team’s final road game of the 2025 campaign on Saturday. The Aztecs fall to 5-10 overall and 0-4 in the Big 12 while the Sun Devils improve to 10-6 on the season and 3-1 in the league.
Senior Sara Toner and redshirt freshman Bella Tan commanded the San Diego State offense, combining for 10 of the Aztecs’ 12 goals with five apiece. This is the fifth game this season the freshman has scored five or more goals. Tan continues to be the team’s leading goal scorer with 44 on the year, which is the sixth most by an Aztec in a single season, and the most ever by a San Diego State freshman.
In addition to Toner’s career high five goals, the senior also picked up a season high four ground balls, while also forcing one turnover.
Junior Kate Christos and sophomore Frankie Garcia each put one in the net as well.
Redshirt freshman Presley Mitchell shattered her career high in draw controls, recording nine, which ties her with Bailey Brown (’21, ’22) and Harlowe Steele (’19) for the fifth most draw controls in a single game in program history.
The Sun Devils were led by Teagan Ng, who also put away five goals, while adding one assist as well. Lydia Oldknow and Anna Thornton were Arizona State’s second leading scorers, each with four.
San Diego State played both Grace Moore and Caitlin Boughton in the cage. Earning her second consecutive start, Moore played nearly 25 minutes, recording six saves while allowing 13 goals. Boughton then took over for the final 35 minutes, also recording six saves while allowing 10 goals.
After finding themselves behind 5-0 at the 7:10 mark, the Aztecs never led in the game. They were able to find scoring opportunities, especially in the second period, putting themselves within two in a couple of instances, but the Aztecs couldn’t outlast the high-octane Sun Devil offense.
Next up, San Diego State returns to The Mesa for its final game of the season, hosting UC Davis at Aztec Field on April 26 at noon.
