San Diego State has won two of the last four outdoor championships, four of the last seven, and six championships overall since head coach Shelia Burrell took over the program for the 2010 outdoor campaign. Since 2013, the Aztecs have finished third or better every year in the outdoor championships with 10 of those 11 championships resulting in a first or runner-up finish.

SDSU has finished runner-up behind Colorado State for each of the last two years after winning the title over the Rams the previous two seasons (2021 and 2022). At last year’s meet, San Diego State was edged by the Rams by 13 points. Last year’s individual gold medals by the Aztecs came from Jada Moore in the 100, Shaquena Foote in the 400, Charlize James in the 100 hurdles and Jenna Fee Feyerabend in the heptathlon. SDSU also took the gold in both relays, including the 4x100 of Hannah Waller, Moore, Foote and Aji Mbye, and the 4x400 team of Rhea Hoyte, Lidie Major, Sydney Bentley and Foote.

San Diego State returns two individual champions in Foote (400) and James (100 hurdles) from last year, while Foote and Mbye are also back to defend their relay titles. The Aztecs have won four straight conference titles in both the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay. Additionally, SDSU has claimed four consecutive titles in the 100-meter hurdles, including Danae Dyer from 2021-23 and James in 2024.

Looking at the MW performance list, San Diego State has 23 marks ranked among the top-10, including conference leading marks by Mbye in the 100m, Foote in the 400m and the 4x100. Other top-3 marks include James in the 100 hurdles (2nd), Olivia Hicks in the 100 (3rd), Lauren Harper in the 800 (3rd), Kayla Tassara in the pole vault (3rd) and Pavana Nagaraj in the long jump (3rd).
