How did you become the San Diego State men’s soccer head coach?
I was hired from the University of Virginia as an assistant coach in 2020, coming off a national championship game appearance in 2019. COVID started two weeks after I got hired, so it's been quite the wild ride!
As a former student-athlete, can you tell us how you bring your experience to your team?
Just understanding the balance that it takes to be good in all aspects of the student-athlete experience. We have high expectations for our student-athletes and we push them to be their very best. We also provide a lot of support through our department to help them along their journey here at SDSU.
Do you have a favorite memory from your time as a student-athlete?
Making the national tournament for the first time ever in school history is my favorite memory during that time. Some of my best friends, still to this day, played on that team, and it’s something we reflect on all the time.
How have scholarships and philanthropy helped your program?
Scholarships are the lifeblood of our program. We have many first-generation student-athletes and guys that come from challenging financial situations so these scholarships go along to provide them with education and life skills to prepare for the real world!
What is your favorite highlight or aztec memory?
There are too many to count! I would say definitely getting us ranked in the top 25 for 3 of the last 4 years, as well as winning the WAC Championship in 2024 for the first championship in school history.
What is one thing fans can look forward to in the 2025 men’s soccer season?
We have a very exciting team coming back, and looking forward to defending our WAC Championship and making a strong NCAA Tournament run!
What is something your student-athletes have taught you?
They have taught me to enjoy the ride a little more and remember to have fun. I still struggle with this, but it’s a good work in progress!
What do you like to do in your free time outside of this role?
I love traveling, photography, hiking, and live music!
