SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State has announced its game day promotions for Saturday night's game against the visiting Golden Bears from the University of California, Berkeley. The game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network. Saturday’s game is sponsored by Snapdragon.
Saturday night’s matchup against Cal will serve as the culmination of SDSU’s Day of Champions as the athletic department will proudly honor and acknowledge the 2015 Mountain West football championship team. San Diego State will also acknowledge the following 2024-2025 sports conference champions including Women’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Men’s Golf, Softball, Swimming & Diving and Women’s Tennis. Saturday night will also be a night of recognition for the United States Army.
The River Block Party, presented by Snapdragon, will begin at 2:30 p.m. and be highlighted by a Beach Bash theme. Some unique activities planned for the afternoon include a live sand sculpture artist, live DJ and calypso band performances and a free SDSU Hawaiian shirt give away for students beginning at 4:30 p.m. while supplies last!
Multiple championship team autograph sessions are scheduled throughout the day as well. First, members of the 2015 championship football team will be available for autographs in 30-minute increments starting at 3:30 p.m. Later in the day members of the women’s basketball program will be available for autographs from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet the women’s program as they prepare to defend their 2024-2025 conference title!
Other activations at the block party include a Kids Zone with a prize wheel, temporary tattoos, various yard games, food and beverage options, and big screen TVs with other college football games playing.
The Warrior Walk will begin at 5:15 p.m., offering fans the perfect opportunity to cheer on the team as they exit the buses and walk into Snapdragon Stadium where they will gear up to take on the Golden Bears! Fans can mingle with the San Diego State spirit squads, including cheerleaders, dance team and band, before watching the Aztecs get ready to do battle inside the stadium.
Starting with this game and continuing through the remainder of the season students with student tickets will be asked to enter the stadium via the North gate. The first 1,000 students to arrive at said gate will also receive free SDSU sunglasses! On top of supporting their Aztec’s, SDSU students will also be invited to the Aztec Halftime Party hosted by DJ D-Rock in the North concourse!
San Diego State football is proud to announce not one, but two Honor Warriors for Saturday night’s matchup. Both members of the 2015 Mountain West Championship team, longtime head coach Rocky Long and NCAA FBS all-time leading rusher Donnel Pumphrey will be returning to The Mesa!
Donnel Pumphrey finished his storied career at San Diego State as the NCAA FBS’s all-time leading rusher with 6,405 yards. A two-time Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, three-time first-team all-Mountain West selection and a three-time Aztec MVP, Pumphrey also finished fifth in NCAA FBS history in all-purpose yards (7,515), tied for eighth in overall touchdowns (67) and ninth in rushing touchdowns (62). As a senior in 2016, Pumphrey rushed for 17 touchdowns and 2,133 yards, at the time a SDSU single-season record and still the 13th most in NCAA FBS history, en route to being named one of three finalist for the Doak Walker Award for the top running back in the country.
Rocky Long retired as San Diego State’s head coach after the 2019 season as the all-time winningest coach in Mountain West history and the second-winningest coach in San Diego State history. Long guided the Aztecs to an 81-38 record in nine seasons at the helm, leading SDSU to three Mountain West titles and a bowl appearance in all nine years on The Mesa. Long was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year three times over his career, including 2012 and 2015 at SDSU. In that 2015 season, San Diego State won its final 10 games of the year, including all eight Mountain West games, the league championship over Air Force and the Hawai’i Bowl over Houston.
