ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- San Diego State Women’s Track & Field officially began their 2026 indoor season at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by fellow Mountain West member, New Mexico. The first day of action was highlighted by the Aztecs participating in the long jump, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and 600-meter run.

In the jumping pit 2024 indoor All-American Xiamara Young wasted no time adding to her impressive resume. The senior posted a personal, indoor best of 6.34m in the long jump securing a second-place finish in a field of over 32 competitors. Her 6.34m mark now stands as the third-best jump in San Diego State indoor history. Young now owns the third and fifth longest jump in program history. Alyssa Alumbres made her indoor long jump collegiate debut with a 5.50m mark. Rounding out Friday’s jumpers were Chloe Williams, making her SDSU debut, and Giselle Galles.

On the track, Lidia Major also placed herself into the record books thanks to a 1:35.79 final time in the 600-meter run. She now owns the eighth fastest time in program history. In the 400-meter dash the duo of Shari Hurdman and Karina Janik both debuted for the Aztecs as well. Hurdman, a freshman from Australia, finished the race in 56.10 seconds. Janik, who spent last season at Wisconsin, was not far behind posting a 58.29 mark. Finally, five Aztecs competed in the unseeded 200-meter dash. Aji Mbye paced the team with a 23.97 final time. Laraigh Allen and freshmen Kelia Bentham were right behind her with 24.05 and 24.10 marks respectively. Allen’s time was good for an indoor personal best. The trio claimed seventh, eighth and ninth place in a field featuring just under 50 athletes. Takiyah Blue and Anna Mager also competed in the 200-meter dash as well. Blue’s time of 24.76 was a new personal record as well.

Day two of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. PT. Tomorrow the Aztecs will compete in a multitude of events including the shot put, pole vault, triple jump, 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and 4X400 relay.
