Aztecs Stay Hot with Wire-to-Wire 94-66 Win over San Jose State

SDSU stayed a perfect 9-0 in Mountain West play and extended their win streak to 11 games. The Aztecs dished out a season-high 24 assists and tied a season-high with 14 three-pointers.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team (15-3, 9-0) stayed hot with a wire-to-wire 94-66 win over San Jose State (3-18, 1-9) inside Viejas Arena Saturday to stay a perfect 9-0 in Mountain West play and extend their win streak to 11 games.

The Aztecs dished out a season-high 24 assists, tied a season-high with 14 three-pointers and scored at least 21 points in every quarter.

“We did a good job handling business and protecting our home court,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “I thought our bench played some really good minutes for us and we showed how deep we are.”

12 different players scored and the Aztecs were led by Nala Williams and Kennedy Lee who each had a double-double. Nala Williams had 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting with 10 assists and became the first Aztec in the Mountain West era to have at least 20 points, 10 assists and zero turnovers in a game.

Kennedy Lee recorded her first double-double as an Aztec with 12 points and a season-high 12 rebounds, while six other Aztecs scored seven or eight points.

The Aztecs had an early 18-0 run to take a 21-3 lead while holding the Spartans scoreless for a seven-minute stretch in the first quarter. SDSU led by double-digits the rest of the game, leading by as much as 40 points in the fourth quarter.

SDSU dominated the glass, outrebounding the Spartans 49-28 with a 14-3 advantage on the offensive glass which led to a 13-0 edge in second chance points. The Aztecs also flexed their muscles, outscoring San Jose State 26-8 in the paint.

The Aztecs made 14 three-pointers, which is tied for the second most in school history. It’s the second time in the last three games SDSU has made 14 three-pointers.

The Aztecs have won 11 games in a row and 17 straight against Mountain West opponents (dating back to last year). Both are the longest streaks since the 2012-13 season.
