SAN DIEGO – It has been an outstanding start to the 2026 indoor season for jumper Xiamara Young. The senior out of Las Vegas, Nevada competed for the first time this season at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by University of New Mexico.
Young, a 2024 Indoor All-American, started the meet with a second-place performance in the long jump. Her mark of 20-09.75 (6.34m) now stands as the third best mark in program history. She also owns the fifth best long jump in SDSU indoor history as well. Young is currently tied for the fourteenth best long jump performance in NCAA Division I and holds the top mark in the Mountain West.
She followed up that performance with a first-place finish in the triple jump. She posted a meet winning 43-03.00 (13.18m) jump on her fourth attempt of the day while being only one of two athletes to clear the 13-meter mark. Young set another top 10 mark with her performance claiming the sixth best indoor triple jump in Aztec’s history. She also owns the fourth best mark as well. Young is currently the owner of the tenth best triple jump performance in NCAA Division I and is the only Mountain West athlete inside the top 40 of triple jumpers.
The Aztecs return to action this weekend at the UW Invitational and Mile City in Seattle, Washington hosted by the University of Washington Huskies at Dempsey Indoor. The meet is scheduled to begin Friday, January 30 at 10:00 a.m. PT.
