Takis leads 75-man field at -7 through two rounds; Aztecs at even-par.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- San Diego State men’s golf sophomore Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) fired a 4-under-par 66 to take a one-shot lead through two rounds at the Southwestern Invitational Tuesday in Westlake Village, California.

 

A day after shooting a 3-under 67 in the opening round on Monday, Takis carded a 4-under 66 in today’s second round. After opening with a double bogey on the par-4, 314-yard 10th hole, Takis went birdie, birdie, par, par and eagle on the par-5, 485-yard 15th hole. After consecutive pars, he made birdies on the par-4, 431-yard 18th and the par-4, 470-yard first to reach 4-under through 10 holes. Takis bogeyed the par-4, 346-yard fifth, but got back to -4 with a birdie on the par-4, 498-yard eighth to sign for a 66.

Takis leads Pepperdine’s Brady Siravo (-6) by a stroke, while Pepperdine’s Byungho Lee and UCLA’s Baylor Larrabee are tied for third out of the 75-man field at -5.

The Aztecs, who entered 29th in the latest Scoreboard powered by Clippd computer rankings, finished at 1-under-par 279 on the par-70, 6,764-yard North Ranch Country Club, and are at even-par for the tournament, tied with No. 24 USC for second in the 13-team field. San Diego is fourth at +3, while No. 41 Washington (+6), UNLV (+8), No. 19 Utah (+15), No. 17 New Mexico (+18), No. 47 SMU (+19) and No. 21 UCLA (+20) round out the top 10.

Sophomore Kai Hirayama (Arcadia, Calif.), meanwhile, is tied for 14th at 1-over 141 following an even-par 70 in today’s second round. Hirayama had two birdies and two bogeys, going bogey-free over his final 12 holes.

Senior Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) carded a 2-over 72 on Tuesday and is tied for 29th at 4-over 144. Chokprajakchat’s round featured four birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys.

Senior Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) shot a 1-over 71 today to move up 15 places into a tie for 36th at +6. Kowack sank four birdies, which were offset by five bogeys.

Redshirt junior Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) is tied for 42nd at +7 after a 76 on Tuesday. He had four birdies on the day, six bogeys and two double bogeys.

Competing as an individual, freshman Beau Sahr (Eagle, Idaho) is tied for 68th at +14. Sahr had one birdie on the day, which came on the par-5, 532-yard 12th.

The final round concludes on Wednesday.
