SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse is back at Aztec Field on Thursday evening, welcoming FDU to The Mesa for a 7 p.m. matchup. Follow along on the live stream or live stats.
The Aztecs enter the game 0-1 on the season following a narrow 13-12 loss against Cal in their season opener last Friday. The Knights hold the same record after falling 12-8 to Rider. This will be the very first meeting between the two programs.
In last week’s contest, San Diego State was led by sophomores Mia Maechtel and Keira Doyle-Odenbach. After scoring her first career goal early in the first period, Maechtel tacked on two more to total four points with the addition of an assist. Doyle-Odenbach recorded two goals, one assist, four draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Tate Stokesberry added two goals while Tatum Neach, Megan McDevitt and Lilah Turley each put away one.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Boughton played all 60 minutes in the cage, grabbing seven saves off 20 shots faced.
After the opening week, San Diego State leads the Big 12 in ground balls (22) while also having the second-most points (17), goals (12) and assists (5).
In FDU’s loss to Rider, the Knights were led offensively by junior attacker Jenny Spencer and senior attacker Riley Eaton, who combined for five goals and two assists. Junior midfielder Nora Codianni was a key factor for FDU in the draw circle, picking up six draw controls.
Three keepers made an appearance for the Knights. Playing 35 minutes, Riley Schildt recorded seven saves and five goals allowed, while Ashlee Stanley grabbed two saves and allowed four goals in 19 minutes and Skylar Goodman let three in the net with no saves in six minutes.
Following Thursday’s game, the Aztecs will be back in action on Feb. 16 as they host Oregon at Aztec Field, beginning at noon.
