SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis is back in action this weekend, welcoming Loyola Marymount and Hawai’i to the Aztec Tennis Center on Friday and Sunday.

The Aztecs currently hold a 3-1 overall record, most recently sweeping Long Beach State 4-0 last Sunday. The team also took down Point Loma 7-0 and UC San Diego 4-0. Their single loss came at No. 17 UCLA by a score of 5-2.
LMU enters the contest 4-2 on the season and on a three-match winning streak. The Lions boast wins over Nevada (4-3), Cal State Fullerton (4-0), CSUN (5-2) and Long Beach State (4-3). Their two losses came against No. 19 USC (4-0) and Houston (4-0).
Hawai’i is 2-2 through its first four matches, taking down Sacramento State 4-3 twice in a doubleheader and falling 5-2 to Washington and Utah. Prior to facing the Aztecs, the Rainbow Warriors will take on San Diego and UC San Diego on Thursday and Saturday.
Last time out, the Aztecs captured the doubles point against Long Beach State and dominated singles competition en route to their third shutout victory. Jo-Yee Chan, who ranks 107th in ITA singles, cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Thea Jagare on the top court to earn her 13th singles victory of the season. She also defeated Paulina Franco Martinessi and Cecelia Costa in the top doubles spot, playing alongside freshman Vessa Turley. The duo leads San Diego State with a 12-3 record and ranks 32nd in the nation. Chan’s performance on the first court earned her Mountain West Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache also captured a win in doubles vs. The Beach, taking down Daria Malescu and Johanna Hiesmair 6-2. Gloria Alogo and Clemens helped clinch the team victory with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Costa and a 6-3, 6-2 win against Malescu, respectively.
Following Sunday’s contest, the Aztecs will look ahead to a matchup against Sacramento State on their home courts on Feb. 22.
