SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s tennis is back on The Mesa this weekend, welcoming Utah to the Aztec Tennis Center for a Valentine’s Day matchup, beginning at noon PT.

The Aztecs hold a 1-7 overall record so far this season, coming off a 4-0 loss to Tulsa last Sunday. Of their eight matches played, seven have been on the road and three have been against top 20 opponents. Their first win of the season came against UC San Diego in a 4-0 sweep on Jan. 11.

Utah enters Saturday’s contest with a 3-3 record. The Utes hold wins over Idaho State (6-1), Northern Arizona (6-1) and Montana (4-0), and have lost to Stanford (4-1), Oregon (4-0) and Denver (4-3). 

The last time the two programs met was last year when Utah traveled to the Aztec Tennis Center for the San Diego Spring Invitational. The Utes took the opening round match by a score of 4-2 over the Aztecs, however the all-time series record is 18-16 in San Diego State’s favor.

Denis Maijorov currently leads the team in singles victories with seven on the year. Imran Daniel Hazli, Alexi Lofman and Finn Willman have each made appearances on the top court for the Aztecs. Hazli earned the team’s first point in the top spot against Loyola Marymount.

Following Saturday’s match, the Aztecs will hit the road again to take on UC Irvine at 1 p.m. on Feb. 22.
