LIHUE, Hawaii -- Sophomore Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) fired a 5-under-par 65 in the final round to finish as the runner-up in leading the San Diego State men’s golf team at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Saturday in Lihue, Hawai’i.
Takis, who now has a victory and four runner-up finishes over his last eight collegiate tournaments dating back to last season, finished at 7-under 203 on the par-70, 7,098-yard Ocean Course at Hokuala for the 54-hole tournament, just a shot back of medalist Trevor Algaya (-8) of LMU in the 111-man field.
Takis had six birdies and a lone bogey on the par-3, 173-yard 17th hole. The 65 was the second-best final round, only trailing Algaya’s 64. Takis has lost to only two golfers in the 2025-26 season.
Sophomore Kai Hirayama (Arcadia, Calif.) and senior Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) each tied for 30th at 4-over 214. Hirayama carded a 2-over 72 with three birdies and five bogeys.
Kowack, meanwhile, eagled the par-5, 525-yard second hole and also had one birdie, but these were offset by four bogeys and a triple bogey.
Senior Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) tied for 72nd at +11 following a 73 on Saturday. He had two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.
Competing as an individual, junior Nathan Sampson (Temecula, Calif.) had his best round of the tournament with a 3-over 73, tying for 93rd overall at +14. Sampson sank three birdies with four bogeys and a double bogey.
Junior Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) shot a 79 today and finished in a tie for 101st at +17.
The Aztecs, who are ranked 22nd in the latest computer rankings, shot a 4-over 284 in the final round and finished 10th of 19 teams at +11. LMU captured the team title at -10, while No. 38 UNLV (-5), No. 32 Texas A&M (-5), No. 19 New Mexico (-3) and No. 42 Long Beach State (+1) rounded out the top 5.
San Diego State next plays in the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas from March 1-3 before hosting its lone home tournament, the R.E. Lamkin Invitational, March 9-10, at San Diego Country Club in nearby Chula Vista, California.
