RENO, NEV. – After a dominant pentathlon win by Jenna Fee Feyerabend on Thursday, the Aztecs continued their impressive outing at the Wolf Pack Classic. SDSU saw athletes compete in the long jump, pole vault, 200-meter dash and “Section B” 400-meter dash.
The day started with Xiamara Young and Giselle Galles in the jump pits. Galles secured a 10th place finish with a personal best 5.46m jump. Xiamara Young, fresh off of winning the triple jump at the MLK Invitational, secured her second individual victory of the season. Young earned the top spot on the podium in the long jump with a 6.08m performance. She was the only athlete to clear the six-meter mark on the day.
On the track the sprinting team was also dynamic. In the “Section B” 400-meter dash San Diego State claimed the first four spots on the leaderboards. Freshman Shari Hurdman picked up her first event victory as a collegiate athlete winning with a personal best of 55.12. Lidia Major continued her strong start to the season with a second-place finish and 55.37 personal best. Another freshman, Kelia Bentham also ran a sub 56 second time in her collegiate 400-meter debut which was good for third place while Takiyah Blue’s personal best of 55.65 earned her a fourth-place spot on the podium.
Eight Aztecs raced in the 200-meter dash led by Aji Mbye. Mbye posted a fourth-place finish with a 23.74 time. Both Shari Hurdman and Laraigh Allen also came in the top 10, taking eighth and ninth place respectively. Olivia Hicks rounded out the Aztecs top 10 performers with a 10th place finish at 24.36.
The final action of the day saw the Aztec’s pole vaulters sweep the top three marks of the day. Isabella Nilsen led the way clearing 4.20m in just her second appearance for San Diego State. Her winning vault officially moved her into a tie for the ninth best mark in the program’s indoor history. She also now holds the indoor pole vault record for the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The duo of Peyton Bedrosian and Jordan Leveque both managed 3.86m performances giving them the second and third spots on the podium respectively.
San Diego State enters the final day of the Wolf Pack Classic with three first place finishes not including Feyerabend’s unattached victory in the pentathlon. The third and final day of the meet will see the Aztecs compete in the triple jump, 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles.
