RENO, NEV. – San Diego State Track and Field finished the Wolf Pack Classic on Saturday with 11 more athletes competing in a variety of sprints, jumps and relays.
In the jumping pits, Alyssa Alumbres brought home a second-place finish in the triple jump, posting a new indoor PR of 12.00m. Alumbres was one of only two athletes to clear the 12.00m mark. Fellow jumper Xiamara Young traded in the pit for the track, debuting in the 60-meter dash where she posted a 7.62 personal best.
Along with Young, Aji Mbye ran a 7.45 in the qualifying rounds, good for a fourth-place finish and a spot in the finals. Freshman Taylor Anyansi returns to San Diego with a new personal best in the 60-meter as well running 7.65. Mbye finished the finals with a solid 7.46 showing. Brinley Campbell was the lone Aztec to compete in the 60-meter hurdles and booked her ticket to the finals thanks to a 8.83 preliminary performance, her fastest as an Aztec. In the finals, she finished with a time of 9.10.
The highlight of the day came courtesy of the Aztec’s 4x400 meter relay team. Laraigh Allen, Kelia Bentham, Shari Hurdman and Lidia Major not only won the event, but they set the fourth fastest indoor relay time in program history, running 3:37.75. Hurdman, Bentham and Major were members of the MLK Invitational relay team that posted the seventh fastest 4x400 performance earlier this season.
It was a successful weekend of competition for SDSU. An Aztec claimed first place in the pentathlon, long jump, pole vault, “Section B” 400-meter dash and 4x400 relay. San Diego State will be returning to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center next weekend to compete in the Battle Born Classic. The action is scheduled to start on February 13 and run through February 14.
