SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s tennis took down Air Force 4-2 in its conference opener on Sunday afternoon. The Aztecs improve to 7-9 and 1-0 in the Mountain West while the Falcons fall to 4-8 and 0-1 in the league.

“It was a good win today against a well-coached Air Force team,” said Head Coach Gene Carswell. “I’m proud of the team for rallying together to earn a hard-fought win.”

The Aztecs took a quick lead after capturing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Aleksi Lofman and William Kleege downed Jack Brown and Tyler Leaird 6-3 on the top court before Imran Daniel Hazli and Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over AJ Moore and Langdon Tingleaf in the second spot. Lars Johann and Brock Anderson led Alec Fritzinger and Matthew Staton 5-4 on court three when the point was earned.

In singles competition, Johann defeated Staton 6-3, 7-5 before Lofman took the top court 6-4, 6-3 over Moore. It was Hazli who clinched the match for the Aztecs after taking down Phillip Deaton 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (8-6) in the second spot.

Next up, the Aztecs head to Nevada to take on UNLV on Friday and Nevada on Sunday.
