SAN DIEGO – After earning two top court wins in singles and doubles to help lead No. 53 San Diego State women’s tennis to a shutout victory over Grand Canyon and capture a Mountain West regular season championship, senior Jo-Yee Chan earned Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced on Monday.
Following her senior day celebration, Chan helped secure the doubles point against the Lopes, taking down Bella Crossman and Dania Deaifi 6-2, playing alongside Vessa Turley on court one. In singles competition, Chan clinched the match after defeating Crossman 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in the top spot.
Chan’s performance was vital in claiming the team’s second consecutive regular season conference championship as well as a No. 1 seed in this week’s Mountain West tournament. The Aztecs finished 18-3 overall and 10-1 in the league. The senior helped lead the team to one of its most successful seasons in program history, playing at the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles for the entirety of the spring season. She amassed a 21-8 singles record, including 5-1in Mountain West matchups. Playing with Turley in doubles, the Aztec duo notched a 25-6 record on the season and 8-2 in conference play.
Next up, the Aztecs will head to Las Vegas as the No. 1 seed in the Mountain West Championships. They will take on the winner between No. 8 Wyoming and No. 9 New Mexico on Thursday.
