Four Aztecs Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. -- Four San Diego State golfers were named 2025-26 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Monday. The four Aztec scholars include seniors Chanachon Chokprajakchat and Tyler Kowack, junior Dylan Oyama and sophomore Kai Hirayama.

To be eligible for a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be at least a sophomore - both academically and athletically - in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate’s degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Chokprajakchat ranked third on the team with a 72.93 scoring average across 30 rounds. Chokprajakchat logged three top-10 finishes on the season, including a third-place showing at 9-under-par 207 at the R.E. Lamkin Invitational, March 9-10 at San Diego Country Club. For his efforts, he was named the Mountain West Golfer of the Week. Chokprajakchat finished his playing career with a 72.00 stroke average in 126 rounds, which ranks as the ninth-lowest mark in San Diego State recorded history, and was an all-MW selection for the 2024-25 campaign.

Kowack, meanwhile, ranked second on the squad with a 72.58 average in 33 rounds. A three-time all-Mountain West selection, Kowack earned medalist honors at the Marquette Intercollegiate, Oct. 5-7, at 2-under 214 for his second career victory. He also led the Aztecs at the MW Championship, taking second at 16-under 200. Kowack finished his SDSU career with a 71.96 average over 129 rounds, tied with Aaron Goldberg for the seventh-best mark in San Diego State recorded history.

Oyama, meanwhile, received his second major academic accolade for a second straight year after being named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team in the spring. Oyama played in seven tournaments on the season, including six in the starting lineup. Oyama averaged 75.05 strokes per round, shooting a 1-under-par 215 in the Aztecs’ third-place finish at the MW Championship. Oyama was the 2022-23 MW Freshman of the Year and captured the 2023 MW individual title.

Hirayama made the most of his first year on The Mesa after transferring from California. Hirayama was fourth on the team in 2025-26 with a 73.03 stroke average in 33 rounds. He had a pair of top-20 finishes, leading SDSU at the Pauma Valley Invitational, March 16-18, at 3-under 210. Hirayama’s 33 rounds played were tied with Kowack for the most on the team.

After tying an MW record with four consecutive wins at the league championship from 2022-25, the Aztecs took third in their final MW event in May before ending the year at the NCAA Marana Regional. San Diego State officially joined the Pac-12 on July 1.
