SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (2-2-3) lost at No. 9 San Diego (5-1-1) 2-1 Sunday evening behind two first half goals, snapping a five-match unbeaten streak for the Aztecs.
“San Diego did a good job of putting us on our heels in the first half,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match. “But we stayed positive and kept believing and we put together a wonderful second half.”
The Toreros’ first goal came in the 17th minute following a corner kick. After the ball was deflected outside the box, it landed at Iain Wagner’s feet who scored from long range.
USD struck again in the 34th minute when Taj Eagleston finished a cross from Luca Fava.
SDSU had a good look in the 71st minute following a Dylan Presto header that was flicked on by Jaxson Hutcheon for a Lucas Caffo header, but it was safely corralled by the Torero goalkeeper.
In the 79th minute, it appeared that USD had scored on a jump ball header on a corner, but after video review it was ruled that a Torero made illegal contact with Aztec goalkeeper Nic Diana.
The Aztecs spoiled the shutout with 14 seconds remaining when Dylan Presto deflected in a Jonah Kawamura shot attempt that followed a corner/

The Aztecs were outshot 16-7.
THE NOTE
This was just SDSU’s third loss in their last 14 road matches (8-3-3).
