2024 Season
Made a huge impact in his lone season at SDSU… Tied for the team lead with six goals and was named to the All-WAC Second Team… Appeared in all 18 matches and made 16 starts… Had 13 points, which was third on the team… Four of his six goals were game-winners… Had a four match stretch where he scored three game-winning goals… Attempted 25 shots (2nd on the team), and put 10 on frame… Played 1,172 minutes… Played at least 50 minutes in every match but one and played a full 90 twice… Scored two goals in the season opener vs. UC Riverside (8-23-24)… Had a goal and an assist vs. UC Davis (9-21-24) which led him to winning WAC Offensive Player of the Week honors… Had goals in back-to-back matches vs. Seattle (10-17-24) and San Jose State (10-20-24) which also garnered him WAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

At American University (2020-23)
Appeared in 57 matches with 38 starts across four years at American University… Tallied 28 points (10 goals and eight assists) in 3,310 minutes… Was named to the Patriot League Second Team after the 2022 and 2023 seasons… Helped American reach three league finals, and won one (2020-21)… Was the 2023 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year.

High School/Club
Attended Prairie Ridge High School in Crystal Lake, Ill… Played for Sockers FC, who he helped finish fourth in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy in 2018-19… Spent time training with FC Schalke in Germany in 2016… Top Drawer Soccer has ranked him as the No. 8 prospect in the Midwest… Called up to tryout camp for the U-15 Romanian national team.

Personal:
Born in Evanston, Ill. To Angie and John Matei… Enjoys fishing, golfing and cutting grass… Lists Michael Jordan as his favorite athlete… After his playing career, would like to work in investment banking… Earned a degree in finance from American University and is working on his MBA at SDSU.
