Sandy Choi is in her fourth season as the San Diego State assistant coach. Choi, who prepped at nearby Torrey Pines High School, played on the Symetra (LPGA) Tour from 2018-2021 and was a standout student-athlete at Duke (2013-17).
"I'm thrilled to welcome Sandy to the Aztec family," head coach Lauren Dobashi said upon Choi’s hiring. "She was an accomplished student-athlete at Duke and had some great success in her professional career. Her playing experience matched with her calm demeanor will make her a great coach and I can't wait for her to get started!"
Choi played in over 50 tournaments on the Symetra Tour and finished in the top-10 twice and top-25 five times. Her two top-ten finishes came in back-to-back weeks in 2018, tying for sixth at the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout and then tying for ninth at the Guardian Championship.
While at Duke, Choi helped the Blue Devils win the 2014 NCAA Championship and claim two ACC titles (2014 & 2017). Individually, she was a WGCA honorable mention All-American in 2016, a three-time All-ACC selection (2015-17), a team captain (2016-17) and earned seven top-10 finishes, including a title at the 2014 Powerade Cougar Classic.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Choi moved to San Diego when she was 12. At Torrey Pines High School, she was named the 2011 San Diego Section Player of the Year after winning CIF Sectional and Regional titles as an individual. She helped Torrey Pines HS win three CIF state championships (2010-12) before going to Duke ranked as the 20th best junior golfer in the country.
An honor roll student and four-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree, Choi graduated from Duke with a degree in psychology in 2017. She resides in North County San Diego.
