Raquel Orozco is in her second year as a student-athlete support services professional and enters her 1st year at SDSU as a full-time staff member, where she is an academic advisor and student-athlete development assistant. She works directly with the Aztec Softball team, as well as Men's and Women's Tennis. Orozco leads the International Student-Athlete Mentor Program and assists in the Aztecs Going Pro initiative, supporting student-athletes in their personal growth, civic engagement, and career development.
Prior to joining SDSU, Orozco served as a Student-Athlete Academic Services Graduate Assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson University for one year. In addition, she worked as a Sports Info and Communications Intern at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she collaborated closely with the communications team representing the voice of the athletes through website content and social media posts. She led the social media coverage and live statistics for the 2021 Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament and 2021 Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Tournament.
Orozco is the daughter of Felipe Orozco and Maribel De Leon. She was born on Jan. 4, 1998, and has one sister, Maribel. A marketing major with a dual minor in Economics and Global Studies at Nebraska, Orozco earned her bachelor's degree in May of 2021. During her time as a student-athlete at Nebraska, she won 2020 NTCA Bowler of the Year and won First-Team All-American Honors. She led the nation in Strike Percentage, Baker Double Percentage, and Baker Frame Scoring. She was named Nebraska Female Athlete of the Year and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2019 and 2020. She was a nine-time selection to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and a four-year member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. She also received the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award during the 2018 season.
Orozco was a member of Junior Team Mexico for five years and is a six-time national champion. In the summer before her freshman and junior seasons, Orozco won multiple medals representing her country internationally, including a gold medal in doubles at the 2018 World Bowling Youth Championships in Detroit and in trios at the 2015 Youth Pan American Bowling Confederation Championships in Panama City, Panama. Orozco has posted a high game of 300 and a high series of 790. She became the first player to join the Nebraska bowling program from Mexico.
