A 2022 graduate of Lincoln High School in Stockton, Calif…. A four-star prospect according to 247 Sports who was rated, at the time of his signing, the No. 89 recruit nationally, the No. 20 shooting guard and No. 10 overall in California… In three varsity seasons, according to MaxPreps, his teams went a combined 58-11, including 26-4 in Tri-City Athletic League (TCAL) action and, as a senior, won the TCAL title for the first time since 2018 and won its first playoff game since 2013… He led the program to the state playoffs for the first time since 1982… As a senior was a McDonald’s All-American nominee, named first team All-Northern California by MaxPreps, first-team all-state by CalHiSports and the SacHiSports Winter Player of the Year, TCAL co-Most Valuable Player of the Year… In the classroom, earned inclusion on the West team of the All-Academic All-America Game as a senior and was an honor roll designee in six of his eight high school semesters… In his senior campaign he averaged 17.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.2 blocks according to MaxPreps… In a shortened junior campaign, due to COVID, he averaged 16.8 points, 6.8 rebounds 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.2 blocks… The son of Jodie and Calvin Byrd… Father Calvin played collegiately at Villanova and professionally both internationally and in the United States… Sister Alex plays volleyball at Stanislaus State… Chose San Diego State over the likes of Villanova, Washington, Minnesota, Saint Mary’s, and Colorado State among others.
